Speaktionary was founded by a retired Ontario educator whose 37-year career spans two of Canada's largest and most celebrated school boards: the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the York Region District School Board (YRDSB). Her classroom experience is as broad as it is deep — teaching Kindergarten through Grade 8 in both Core French and French Immersion, she developed an intimate understanding of how young children acquire language, build vocabulary, and gain the confidence to express themselves.
Her passion for equipping teachers is as storied as her work with students. For many years, she was a dedicated contributor to the Great Beginnings programme in the York Region District School Board — a mentorship initiative designed to give new teachers the skills, strategies, and confidence to lead their classrooms effectively from day one.
After more than three decades watching children struggle with vocabulary not because they lacked ability, but because the tools weren't accessible enough — she decided to build the tool she always wished she had. Speaktionary is the result: a platform rooted in real pedagogical practice, designed with every type of learner in mind, and built to bring the same warmth and encouragement she brought to her classroom every single day.
"After 37 years in the classroom, I never stopped loving the moment when a child's face lights up because a word finally clicks. Speaktionary was built to bring that moment to every child — one word at a time."
